Meet Grace the owner at Mint Consignment Store, Cambridge

Meet Grace

Hi, I’m Grace, the owner of Mint Consignment Store, located on Victoria Street in Cambridge, NZ. I opened Mint in June 2020 with a vision to make a positive impact on fashion and sustainability. Over the years, we’ve grown into a local favorite for pre-loved designer clothing, offering a carefully curated selection of high-quality second-hand fashion for men and women.

"What I love most about Mint is the amazing community we’ve built. Cambridge has been a wonderful place to grow this business, and I’ve been fortunate to receive incredible support from our customers. None of this would be possible without my amazing team, who make every day at Mint an absolute joy."

Sustainable and Stylish Pre-Loved Fashion

With over 92 million tonnes of clothing ending up in landfills each year, choosing second-hand fashion is one of the easiest ways to make a difference.

We handpick high-quality, upmarket second-hand clothing, shoes, and accessories for both men and woman from trusted brands, ensuring every item meets our standards for style and condition. Our collection is constantly updated, offering a unique shopping experience where you can find one-of-a-kind fashion pieces at affordable prices.

At Mint Consignment Store, we believe in slowing down fast fashion and reducing clothing waste.

How Mint Consignment Works

  • Each item stays on the rack for seven weeks:

    • Four weeks at full price

    • Three weeks at half price

  • If unsold, items are either returned or donated to support good causes.

  • Everything we stock is locally sourced, supporting the Cambridge community and promoting sustainable shopping practices.

The Evolution of Mint

Mint started in 2020, the first store was located just down the road from where we are currently in Cambridge. It was a great starting point, a cozy store which we quickly outgrew. After a couple of years, it was time for the next step, it perfectly timed with the renovation of an old building sitting on the corner.

Before Mint Consignment Store, Cambridge

The transformation took a while as the store used to be a mechanic's. It was one big building that was split into four spaces. I was lucky to get the corner spot, perfect with its three walls of windows. We gutted the space, exposed the ceiling beam, and lined the roof with pink plywood. Once the walls went up it was time for painting, it felt as if I was painting for months. Those old concrete walls soaked up coats of paint. Finally the space was bright and open.

Mint is a labour of love — a little rough around the edges, full of quirks and character, but all of it intentional.

Before Mint Consignment Store, Cambridge

We sanded the floors down, getting off the glue from previous flooring and years of grease and dirt. I wanted to leave some of the original flooring colours, there had definitely been a few layers over the years. I had the idea to paint a full grid across the floor, seems like a great idea.. right. Now just image me crawling around with masking tape trying to map out the perfect grid. I can confidently say, I absolutely love the outcome however you will never catch me doing that ever again.

All I ever wanted was for people to walk into mint and feel warm, bright, and welcoming. I hope you feel it too.

Changing rooms at Mint Consignment Store, Cambridge

Once our base was complete it was time for the fun part, decorating.. a huge focus for me was utilising second hand & waste products for our decor. I have shelves filled with old suitcases, re painted jars, one of my personal favourites is the shelves we made out of vintage badminton rackets. I made the curtains by sewing stripes of linen together and lining them with bed sheets. The iconic mint paper wall is made from old magazines, simply ripping out all my favourite pages and sticking them in a arch. The curved counter was a fabulous Facebook market find, she differently need a face light however a fresh coat of paint did a lot. This project I taught myself how to tile, I can say I won’t be changing career anytime soon however it defiantly did the trick.. just don’t look to close. I have tired to DIY & use recycled products where possible.
